Arguably the center of this entire endevour; certainly my entry to (nearly) everything else here.

Revolutionary girl Utena is a multi-media franchise spanning that began in... well.

The manga was the first to release, in 1996. But's something of a black sheep within the franchise, and it's not entirely clear to me how many of the differences come from being the first to release, versus mangaka Chiho Saitou's personal touches, versus meddling from executives at the magazine.

The anime first aired in 1997.

Saturn game in 1998.

Movie in 1999.
